A Rooftop Gem in Downtown San Diego

Last week, we had the pleasure of experiencing something truly special in downtown San Diego. After attending an exciting Padres vs. Cubs game with some out-of-town colleagues, we found ourselves craving a memorable post-game experience. The perfect solution? A visit to our old favorite rooftop bar, Level 9 at Hotel Indigo.

To our delightful surprise, Level 9 had undergone a stunning transformation and emerged as Borrego Kitchen & Cocktails. While the breathtaking view of the city skyline remained unchanged, the new vibe and ambiance took our experience to the next level.

Eager to sample the revamped offerings, we decided to indulge in both the views and the menu. Opting for the 24oz Ribeye from their share plates section, we were blown away by the generous portion size and impeccable flavor. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the presliced presentation made sharing a breeze. Accompanying our main course were the mouthwatering maitake mushrooms, a unique and delightful addition to our meal.

As for drinks, Ian opted for the house-made old fashion, and his discerning palate awarded it a perfect 10/10. Meanwhile, as a non-drinker due to pregnancy, I explored their mocktail menu and was delighted by the refreshing and inventive flavors. The piña colada-inspired mocktail was an absolute standout.

Of course, no meal is complete without dessert, and Borrego did not disappoint. We indulged in the churro ice cream, a heavenly combination of crispy churro cookies and creamy ice cream that left us longing for more.
